The Spindolyn ™*
~the Original Quill Supported Spindles ~

The New improved family of Spindolyns!

These unique and original "quill supported" engineering eliminate the "drop" of a drop spindle, the need for the support of a support spindle and give a smooth, fast spin, great for medium fine to fine yarns. There are two bases to choose from, and two whorl styles.

The hardwood base and whorl are finished with an oil based stain in a warm, neutral tone. The final coat is a hand rubbed non-toxic oil finish of my own recipe of a combination of beeswax, coconut oil, mineral oil and all natural lemon oil. (It may be ordered unfinished upon special request.)

~ Shipping Policy~
As with all of our products, each item is individually made on a per order basis. The glue and finish has to be completely dry and the quality checked before the spindles can be shipped out.
Most order ship within a few days, but I am a one woman business, and sometimes, if it is a time of high demand, I can run as much as a week behind. But be assured I am pedaling as fast as I can. If you are in a great hurry for a special reason, like a birthday, please email and I will try my best to accommodate your need for speed.
You may check my blog for current waiting list estimation.

The Spindolyn is made of two parts, the spindle whorl with it's brass shaft, and the wooden base with it's specially shaped brass tube that the shaft rides in.
The base sits
between your knees, tucks in your pocket or fits into a bean bag pouch so that it can sit comfortably anywhere on your lap.

It is perfect for spinning sitting down, in the car, in your easy chair or while lounging on the couch!

The Tenor Spindolyn

This is my spinning tool of choice now. It spins smooth and balanced and can handle a good range of fibers, from medium to fine. The lower profile means more drafting room above, the food grade tubing shaft cover is easy on the fingers and makes wrapping on less tangle-some.

About a Bean Bag pouch.....

For a few years now I have  been thinking that a bean bag cover for the base would be the ultimate way to go, solving the problems of skirt wearing, or ample thighs, or odd positions. It was only recently that I finally tried it out setting the base inside a beanbag pouch and it is, imho, the dream way to spin.

I don't have bean bags available yet, but am sure a crafty individual might want to make their own, anyway. Below is an example of one that works very well. The only rule is that it works best if the bottom is flat. As time goes by, I will be posting free bean bag patterns. The first free bean bag pattern can be found here on my blog.

The Soprano Spindolyn

Similar to the Tenor spindolyn, the soprano is the daughter of the Original. Lighter weight than the tenor, it spins can spin faster for finer, shorter fibers like cotton and silk. It is available with or without the tubing over the shaft, for those who might prefer the tahkli style and greater speed of the uncovered brass shaft.
